Jivamukti Beginner Vinyasa

Jivamukti Beginner Vinyasa classes are designed to provide the student with the underlying basics of how a vinyasa practice works. Vinyasa is a method of practicing asana (physical poses), where the asanas are presented in a sequence, flowing one to the next. The practice focuses on trying to align one’s breath and spiritual intention with movement. The class follows a set sequence of asanas but is presented at a slower more relaxed pace than in the Spiritual Warrior class. Beginner Vinyasa classes provide a good transition for a beginner student from a Basic to the Spiritual Warrior or an Open class and gives the opportunity to the more advanced student to refine their skills through a deeper, slower exploration. This class is suitable for beginners, but open to all levels of practitioner.

Jivamukti Spiritual Warrior

This is a brisk, guided, led vinyasa class in which the teacher calls out the asanas and provides the breath count, but gives minimal instruction as to how to do the various asanas. The class offers a well-rounded practice as a set sequence that includes a warm-up, the setting of an elevated intention, chanting, surya namaskar, standing asanas, twists, balances, backward bending, forward bending and inversions, as well as meditation and relaxation, and is designed to be completed in one hour. Thus, it is suitable for those who have limited time to devote to a yoga practice, for those who are looking for a workout to "shape up" physically, and for those who are looking to include a robust asana practice in a manageable daily routine. Because it is a fixed sequence that is always the same, a student has the opportunity to progress to the level of mastery by committing to a consistent, steady, regular sadhana.

The first few classes may seem overwhelming, but with time and steady practice, progress will inevitably come. The Jivamukti Spiritual Warrior 1-hour sequence is a comprehensive yoga class that transforms, invigorates and energizes, while at the same time grounding and leading the student inward on an exploration of the deeper spiritual aspects of the self.

Restorative Yoga

Appropriate for all ages & levels of yoga experience, this gentle restorative class is meant to remove stress & take you deep into relaxation & healing.

Designed to encourage deep states of relaxation, various parts of the body will be supported for extended periods of time with props (bolsters, blankets, etc.) to allow you to fully surrender & relax in the posture.

This practice is recommended for all who wish to relieve the effects of chronic stress, anxiety or depression.  Highly beneficial for those returning from an illness or injury, or who haven't moved in a long time.  It is recommended for those who are looking for a gentle & easy class or are prenatal.  Everyone will leave feeling refreshed & relaxed.

Satsang

"Satsang" is a Sanskrit word which can be translated as a "gathering in the company with the wise."  It is the traditional method of supporting the spiritualization of the student, sadhaka, or disciple with the teacher or Guru.  There is both a non-verbal & verbal transmission to the aspirant from the teacher.  It is also a means to honor the teacher for all the work they have done for the student in imparting the teachings & understanding of universal truth to them.

Therapeutic Yoga

Therapeutic Yoga is a rejuvenating practice which incorporates gentle yoga, pranayam, restorative postures, healing touch, & guided meditation.  Appropriate for all levels of yoga

Vinyasa Flow

Very similar to the Dharma Yoga Level I & II classes, but this intermediate level class has a slightly faster pace.  Although both classes flow from one pose to the next & utilize many of the same asanas (postures), the length of holding the poses is a little longer in the Dharma Yoga sequences.  Students will also deepen their practice with more pranayama (breathing techniques), meditation & some chanting.

Yin Yoga

A style of Hatha yoga that utilizes longer held postures (generally 2-5 minutes) to stress the connective tissues of the body through tension & compression as well as gently & safely stress the joints themselves.

The practice affects the energy channels (Nadis / Meridians) where they run deeper in the body & can be very meditative due to trying to keep the awareness at the breath. Yin Yoga can be a great complementary practice to more vigorous forms of yoga & is appropriate for most students.
